Abstract	(*)(?)	Os produtos de chuva estimada por sat�lites permitem avaliar a variabilidade espacial da precipita��o em grandes bacias, suscitando sua aplica��o para previs�o de desastres hidrol�gicos. O objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver um m�todo para alerta de inunda��es com uso de precipita��o estimada por sensoriamento remoto, tendo como estudo de caso o munic�pio de S�o Sebasti�o do Ca�/RS. A metodologia proposta envolve: a identifica��o de cheias e de inunda��es; o c�lculo da precipita��o antecedente aos eventos extremos, a partir do produto MERGE, em diferentes horizontes temporais, considerando a �rea de drenagem; a limiariza��o da precipita��o para alertas de inunda��o. Utilizando a abordagem de m�ltiplos limiares, considerando as chuvas acumuladas em 2, 3 e 7 dias, obteve-se 94,4% de acertos no alerta de inunda��es. Conclu�mos que o m�todo � eficiente e acurado, podendo-se expandir sua aplica��o para grandes bacias hidrogr�ficas. ABSTRACT: Satellite-estimated rainfall products allow the evaluation of the spatial variability of precipitation in large basins, which enables their application to predict hydrological disasters. In this paper, we developed a method for flood alerting using precipitation estimated by remote sensing, having as a case study the municipality of S�o Sebasti�o do Ca�/RS. The methodology includes: the identification of floods and inundations; the calculation of rainfall in the days prior to extreme events, using the MERGE product, in different temporal lags, considering the drainage area; the investigation by precipitation thresholds for flood alerts. We were able to get 94.4% of the flood forecasts right using the multi threshold approach, considering rainfall accumulated in 2, 3 and 7 days. We conclude that the method is efficient and accurate, and its application can be expanded to large hydrographic basins.
